Meet Thorsten, our first ever tree spirit kitchen broom! Thorsten is carved by with knives and chisels on a mountain alder sapling, which also was ideal for the making of the woven broom. A companion to help with house chores for many years.
Carved by Kevin Miller, American Broom Shop:
Thorsten's face is carved on the front of the brooms stick, and on the back side there is a diamond scar. If you look inside the diamond, you will see Thorsten's hair, as if he is emerging from his spirit tree. The branch was one-of-a-kind, and Thorsten just fit right in!
The broom is 60" in overall length. The sweep is built heavy enough for sweeping the porch or for larger floor areas. The perfect size for general use. The bristles are long and flexible, which makes sweeping more productive and pleasurable. The sweep is 11" wide, and the handle averages about 1 1/8" in diameter. The carving and handle are sealed with natural tung oil and beeswax. The sweep is stiched flat with three rows of natural linen twine. A chocolate brown leather loop is for hanging and enjoying the broom when not in use.
The entire broom was made by hand, using hand tools.

We have a strong passion for brooms - creating them, learning about them, and using them. Each broom we offer is built by hand using 1800's methods borrowed from the Shakers. In our small workshop in the Pacific Northwest, we weave them one at a time. Every broom is unique, and designed to last for many years. Our ambition is to offer brooms of the finest craftsmanship -- and give each one our personal guarantee of quality.
